ABOUT THE UKSC The UK Songwriting Contest is a popular and prestigious international competition for songwriters, singer-songwriters, lyricists and instrumental composers. The UK Songwriting Contest launched in London in 2002 in association with The BRIT Trust, The BRIT School, The BRIT Studio, Music Aid International, The Guild of International Songwriters and Composers and Roland Music UK. Winners received publishing deals and were invited to record at The BRIT Studio. The BBC was a supporter from day one with many finalists and winners receiving BBC Radio coverage. The BBC remains a strong UKSC supporter to this day, and many entrants are featured and interviewed on BBC Radio and TV every year.
The UK Songwriting Contest is one of the world's most popular, longest running and established songwriting events. It works with top British producers and industry professionals and was formed with the aim of "discovering and encouraging new songwriting talent and promoting the craft of songwriting". The UKSC has kept these original aims and commitments and for this reason the event still maintains the lowest entry fee of all the major international songwriting events and competitions.
AN INTERNATIONAL EVENT Today the UKSC is an international event with entries from many countries and winners and finalists are featured on major international network TV shows and radio stations worldwide. Since the launch almost 100,000 songs have taken part and over £1,000,000worth of prizes has been awarded to entrants. Many entrants have been noticed and signed to deals and have had successful songwriting careers after achieving good results in the contest. Beginners and experienced songwriters compete together on an equal basis and the event is well known inside the music industry as a launching pad for new songwriting talent. It is one of the world's most popular and respected songwriting events.
PRESTIGE AND CREDIBILTY The UKSC has the backing of so many respected organisations and music professionals and many UKSC entrants have been ‘spotted’ and have gone on to successful music careers and deals (see the Success Stories page). Judges include Grammy, Emmy, CMA and BRIT Award winning Gold and Platinum Album producers and songwriters who have worked with artists including Paul McCartney, Cristina Aguerela, Sting, Elton John, Robbie Williams, Oasis, Britney Spears, Led Zeppelin, George Harrison, Simon Cowell, Paul Weller, Burt Bacharach, Kylie Minogue, Boy Zone, Mariah Carey, Take That, Cliff Richard and many more.
OPPORTUNITIES AND SUCCESSES This contest is often described by the media as prestigious because it has winning writers and finalists signed by top industry figures and it is the only songwriting event established in association with major music industry bodies. Many entrant's have been signed to publishing and recording deals, have been asked to write for major artists and major TV shows, have been interviewed and featured in the media worldwide and have had their UKSC winning songs played to many millions on TV and Radio stations around the world. Many entrants have earned royalties from radio play of their entries both in the UK and internationally. Anyone who enters this contest could have similar success and be noticed by the many industry professionals worldwide who follow this event closely looking for new songwriting talent. See Entrant's Success Stories here TIP: For this reason we always recommend that Winners, Finalists and Semi-Finalists should contact their local media with news of their results in the contest as this often leads to extensive media coverage and interest.
